Privacy Policy
In short
- No account, no name, no email address. No analytics, no ads, no tracking. Nothing is sold.
- The microphone is used by the decibel meter, while it is on screen and running, and by the clean’s optional check before and after (part of Driptone Pro), for about five seconds before a clean and again after it, once you turn the check on. Sound is measured on your iPhone and is never recorded, stored or sent.
- Your settings, saved meter sessions, saved tones and hearing checks stay on your iPhone. There is no iCloud copy and no server that receives them.
- The one purchase, Driptone Pro, goes through Apple. RevenueCat checks it for us under a random identifier made on your iPhone that is not linked to you. We never see your card or your Apple account.
- You delete your data in the app or by deleting the app.
1. Who we are
Driptone is an iPhone app with four sound tools: a speaker cleaner, a decibel meter, a tone and frequency generator, and a speaker and hearing-range check. On the App Store it is listed as Water Eject & Decibel Meter. It is published by an individual developer, referred to here as “the developer of Driptone”, “we” or “us”.
The developer of Driptone is the controller of the little personal data described in this policy and can be reached at app.driptone@proton.me.
2. What we do not collect
- No account. The app never asks for your name, email address, phone number or a password.
- No analytics, ads or tracking. The app contains no analytics, advertising or crash-reporting software, uses no advertising identifier and does not track you across apps or websites.
- No recordings. No sound is recorded, stored or sent anywhere (section 3).
- No location, contacts, camera or photos. The app does not ask for them.
- Nothing sold. We do not sell personal data and do not share it for advertising.
3. The microphone
- The decibel meter listens only while the Meter tab is on screen and the meter is running, and stops when you pause it, leave the tab or leave the app. The sound level is worked out on your iPhone from the live input, and the sound itself is discarded as it is measured: it is not recorded, stored or sent anywhere. iOS shows its orange microphone indicator while the meter listens.
- The clean’s check (Check before and after, part of Driptone Pro) is optional and stays off until you turn it on. When you turn it on, the app asks for the microphone if you have not allowed it yet. Then, before the clean and after it, the app plays short, quiet test tones on the bottom speaker for about five seconds and listens with the bottom microphone to measure their levels. Only the levels are shown on screen; the sound is not recorded, saved or sent anywhere. iOS shows its orange microphone indicator while the check listens.
- The clean itself never asks for the microphone. Its option Earpiece only appears only when you have already allowed the microphone, for the meter or the check, and plays through the call audio route of iOS; the app does not read the microphone during the clean. Without the permission, the clean plays on both speakers.
- You can turn microphone access off at any time in Settings › Privacy & Security › Microphone.
4. What stays on your iPhone
The following is kept on your device, in the app’s own storage:
- your settings, such as vibration, the meter’s weighting and calibration offset;
- saved meter sessions (with Pro): their date, length and levels;
- saved tones (with Pro) and hearing checks kept over time (with Pro): the frequencies and results you saved, with the date and the name of the headphones used;
- whether Pro is unlocked, so it works offline.
The files are in a private folder that only the app can read. iOS file protection encrypts them when your iPhone has a passcode. The app does not copy them to iCloud and has no server. As for all app data, iOS may include them in your own device backups (iCloud Backup, or a backup to your computer) if you have backups turned on, under Apple’s terms and your settings.
Export. A meter session can be exported as a CSV file (with Pro). The file goes only where you choose in the share sheet; the app sends it nowhere by itself.
5. Controls
The controls you can add to Control Center, the Lock Screen or the Action button only open the app, on a tool or on the water clean. They read nothing and send nothing.
6. The purchase
The clean and every tool are free. Driptone Pro is a single purchase through Apple’s In-App Purchase. Apple handles the payment; we never see your card details or your Apple account.
To know whether Pro is unlocked, including when a member of your family bought it, the app uses RevenueCat, a service that checks purchases for us and acts as our processor. For this:
- When it first opens, the app makes a random identifier on your iPhone. It is not derived from your name, your Apple account or your device, and it is kept in the iPhone’s Keychain, so a reinstall keeps it.
- When the app opens, it asks RevenueCat whether that identifier has Pro, and fetches the current price. When you buy or restore, it sends the purchase that Apple confirmed.
- RevenueCat receives the random identifier, the iPhone’s identifier for vendor (an identifier iOS gives to one developer’s apps on a device), the purchase and its details from Apple (the product, the price and currency, the date, the App Store country), and basic device and app information (such as the app and iOS versions, the device model and the language). As with any internet service, it also sees the connection’s IP address.
None of this is linked to your name or used to track you. This is what the app’s privacy label on the App Store lists as data not linked to you: Purchases and Identifiers, used for the app’s functionality. RevenueCat’s own handling is described in RevenueCat’s privacy policy; Apple’s in Apple’s privacy policy.
Apple’s reports. If you chose to share analytics with app developers in your iPhone’s settings, Apple may show us crash reports and usage figures that do not identify you.
7. Deleting your data
- Saved meter sessions, saved tones and hearing checks: delete each one from its list in the app.
- Settings and calibration: the calibration can be set back to zero in the meter’s Calibrate sheet.
- Everything on the iPhone: delete the app. Its files and settings go with it. Only the random purchase identifier can stay in the Keychain, so that Pro stays attached to the same install.
- RevenueCat’s record: it holds no name or email, so we cannot look you up. Write to us with the date of the purchase and the order ID on Apple’s receipt email, and we will look for the record and have it deleted. Apple keeps its own record of the purchase.
8. Support emails and this website
If you write to us, we receive your email address and what you wrote, and use them only to answer you. Our mailbox is hosted by Proton. We delete support emails when they are no longer needed, and on request.
This website sets no cookies, runs no scripts and loads nothing from other sites. Its host, Cloudflare, processes your IP address and standard request data to deliver and protect it.
9. Service providers and where data goes
We share data only with the providers below, and only for the purposes described here. Each provider we share data with is bound to protect it at least as well as this policy describes.
| Provider | Role | Data | Where |
|---|---|---|---|
| RevenueCat | Checks the purchase (processor) | Random identifier, identifier for vendor, purchase details, basic device and app information, IP address | United States |
| Apple | App Store, payment, device backups | As described in Apple’s privacy policy and your settings | Worldwide |
| Cloudflare | Hosts this website | IP address and request data, in transit | Global network |
| Proton | Support mailbox | Emails you send us | Switzerland and the European Economic Area |
Your settings, saved sessions, tones and hearing checks stay on your iPhone, wherever you are. The purchase data RevenueCat processes may be processed outside your country, in particular in the United States. Where the GDPR or the UK GDPR applies, such transfers rely on the safeguards those laws provide for: an adequacy decision where one exists, or standard contractual clauses in the provider’s data processing terms.
Purchase records are kept by RevenueCat and Apple under their own retention rules. We may disclose information when the law requires it; as we hold no names and no sound, there is very little we could disclose.
10. Your rights
We use the data above only to tell the app whether Pro is unlocked and to answer you. We do not use it for advertising or profiling, and we make no automated decisions about you. Where the GDPR or the UK GDPR applies, the legal basis for checking the purchase is the performance of a contract (Article 6(1)(b)), and for answering emails our legitimate interest in helping you (Article 6(1)(f)).
Under the GDPR, the UK GDPR, Swiss law, the CCPA in California, the LGPD in Brazil and similar laws, you may have the right to access your personal data, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to or restrict its processing, and to receive it in a portable form. In practice, nearly everything is on your iPhone, where you can see and delete it yourself (section 7). For the purchase record, write to us as section 7 says. We answer within one month, and it costs nothing. You also have the right to complain to the data protection authority where you live or work.
We do not sell or share personal information for advertising, and have not done so in the past twelve months.
11. Children
Driptone is not directed at children. It collects nothing from anyone beyond the purchase check described above, and nothing that identifies a child.
12. Changes
We will update this policy when the app or its providers change, and change the date at the top.
